Veteran Career Resources

Your service matters. Here is how to turn it into a civilian career in San Antonio.

1. Translate your MOS

Civilian hiring managers do not speak MOS. Use tools like O*NET, My Next Move for Veterans, or a trusted mentor to map your military skills to civilian job titles. Then rewrite your resume using those civilian terms.

2. Claim every benefit

3. Find veteran-friendly employers

On AlamoCareers, look for the "Veteran-Focused" badge on jobs and events. These employers have actively committed to hiring veterans and often understand how to value military experience.

Network intentionally: Join local groups like the San Antonio Chamber Military Affairs Council, local VFW posts, and veteran networking meetups. Most jobs here are filled through relationships.

4. Prepare for clearance roles

San Antonio has a huge defense and cybersecurity presence. If you have an active clearance, keep it current and list it prominently. If it has lapsed, look for employers willing to sponsor reinstatement.

5. Ask for help

Veterans are a tight-knit community in San Antonio. Reach out, share your goals, and do not be afraid to ask for introductions. Most vets genuinely want to see the next generation succeed.
